"Against the Tide" est l'histoire épique de la communauté cadienne de la Louisiane. Au début du 17e siècle, des paysans du centre-ouest de la France immigrèrent au nouveau monde pour fuir les guerres de religion et créer une nouvelle communauté en Acadie, ce qui est aujourd'hui Nova Scotia. Leur rêve de liberté et de paix fut sauvagement brisé par leur déportation en 1755, ce que l'on appelle LE GRAND DÉRANGEMENT (voire nettoyage ethnique). Les ancêtres des Cadiens (Cajuns) ont pu mettre fin à leur exil et réunir leurs familles dans le sud de la Louisiane. Isolés de la culture anglo-américaine, les Cajuns ont maintenu leur identité et leur langue face au poids considérable de l'assimilation. Ils ont crée une culture vivante dont la musique et la cuisine sont mondialement connues. Pour la première fois, le producteur Zachary Richard et le réalisateur Pat Mire, en collaboration avec l'historien Carl Brasseaux, le folkloriste Barry Jean Ancelet et le scénariste Charles Richard, racontent la vraie histoire de ce peuple tenace. "Against the Tide" est une célébration de la résistance du peuple Cadien (Cajun).

Against the Tide is the epic story of one of the most celebrated and misunderstood ethnic communities in North America. Beginng in the 17th century, French peasant farmers left western France, ravaged by religious wars, to carve a new homeland in the wildnerness of what is today Nova Scotia. After a brutal deportation, (ethnic cleansing in contemporary parlance) the ancestors of the Cajun people were able to end their exile and reunite their families in Louisiana. Isolated culturally as well as economically, the Cajun people have maintained their identity and language in spite of the overwhelming pressure of Americanization, creating in the process unique musical and culinary traditions which are now known world wide. For the first time, producer Zachary Richard and director Pat Mire, in collaboration with historian Carl Brasseaux and folklorist Barry Ancelet, are able to tell the true story of the Cajun people. Against the Tide is a tribute to the resistance and tenacity of this remarkable community.

"What's remarkable is not that some of the aspect of the culture have been altered or even lost, but that after 250 years in Louisiana, the Cajun people continue to tell their stories, sing their songs, and build their levees against the tide.
